17-Jun-08 Phil Woolas announces broad outline of the proposed Floods and Water Bill - Defra

During a speech at the New Civil Engineer “The Future of UK Water Resources” Conference in London on 17th June, Environment Minister Phil Woolas announced details of the proposed Floods and Water Bill, due for consultation in Spring 2009. He also announced a new strategic overview role for the Environment Agency for all forms of flood risk management throughout the country. Local authorities will take responsibility for surface water flooding in their own communities, supported by the Agency.
