Ken Walsh
Ken is a Waste Manager with over 25 years experience in the waste management in both the public and private sectors. Initially in Local Governement, Ken ran the Cleansing Services for the London Borough of Brent including refuse collections, trade waste, skip and containers services as well as street cleansing, convenience and sign cleaning. Ken also managed special operations for major events at Wembley Stadium. It was during this period that Ken steered the Direct Labour Organisation successfully through the first round of Compulsory Competetive Tendering.
At Watford Borough Council Ken, as Works Manager, was in the dual role of managing both the Client and Contractor operations for Refuse Collections, Street Cleansing, Highway Maintenance, Transport, sign writing and vehicle and taxi licensing.
Moving into the private sector with MRS and subsequently SITA uk, Ken had operational control of a number of service contracts for local authoritiesin the south east including Lambeth, Southwark, Bexley, Bromley, Medway, Dover, Chelmsford and Epping with responsibility for a workforce of over 950 providing services such as refuse collection, street cleansing, transport, highway maintenance, grounds maintenance, facility management, HWRC and transfer station operation, school meals and building cleaning with a turnover in excess of £40m per annum. Ken moved from operations into Business Development with SITA at the start of the period of major PFI procurments and worked on projects such as Surrey, Cornwall, Sheffield and Bromley as part of the SITA development team.
Ken joined the Waste Recycling Group development team in 2001 and was involved in a number of major projectsas Bid Manager including Leicester City, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot PFI's culminating in successfully reaching Financial Close with the Central Berkshire Authorities of Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell in October 2006.
