Joint Working Waste Collection Could Save £1 Million a Year
Entec and Webaspx have successfully worked with Project Integra, a partnership of fifteen parties (including waste collection, disposal authorities and Veolia), to evaluate the potential logistic benefits of joint working waste collection schemes in Hampshire.
The resulting tactical joint working models developed by Entec and Webaspx identified substantial potential savings of nearly a quarter of a million miles per annum, 235,000 kg of CO2 and six vehicle equivalents (including drivers and loaders). The potential cashable logistic savings are in the region of £1 million per annum.
Entec and Webaspx developed models of existing collection rounds for the six partner authorities (Basingstoke and Deane, East Hampshire, Hart, Havant, Portsmouth and Winchester) by capturing round information using the award winning RoundManagerWM software and expertise from over 70 similar projects. This enabled early engagement of operational staff and ensured that the models were grounded in reality.
The results of the logistics study have informed Integra’s business case and the next phase of work will be expanded to include additional authorities and waste collection services. Integra has already reappointed Entec and Webaspx to help define and deliver this next phase with potential for further savings to those already identified.
