Entec Offers ‘Port of Call’ for Master Planning Assistance

Entec is offering support to ports seeking master planning help. This is in response to Department for Transport’s publication of its ‘Port master plan guidance - consultation document’.

DfT is guiding major ports (i.e. those handling over 1M tonnes p.a.) to produce master plans to help accommodate proposed substantial and other developments over the next 25 to 30 years.

As such, 39 ports in England and Wales fall into the 'major ports' category. Smaller ports considering major expansion plans or the promoters of new ports are also being encouraged to produce master plans.

Entec UK Ltd has produced a short guide on the DfT's port master planning guidance including an outline of how a port can approach the process.

Rob Whittle, Entec Director for Transport Sector said: “Entec has been at the forefront of UK master planning for a number of years. In addition to working on estate masterplans for clients such as Defence Estates, we have also supported several UK airports through the master planning process since the DfT issued its Aviation White Paper in 2004.

With our combination of master planning experience, integrated planning, environmental and infrastructure engineering skills, and experience of ports work, we are ideally placed to help ports thinking of producing a master plan. To that end we have produced our overview of the guidance and port master plans and will be happy to meet with ports wanting to explore how to start the process.”
