Press Release
Environment Agency Renews Entec Framework Agreement
Issue date: 21 January 2005
Entec has successfully re-tendered for the Environment Agency Anglian Region Strategy for Groundwater Investigations and Modelling framework consultancy. The framework will run for the next four years and will be used to help the Environment Agency take the strategy forward by delivering a sound understanding of groundwater systems and groundwater resources across the region.
The Environment Agency is responsible for the proper allocation of water resources and the overall aim of the strategy is to provide a technical framework to support the sustainable development and management of groundwater resources, including the protection of groundwater quality throughout the Anglian region. The understanding gained from this work will guide aspects of decision-making on topics such abstraction licence applications and reviews, the protection of wetlands and other protected water-based environments, and help the region contribute to the requirements of the Water Framework Directive.
Entec will continue its work in partnership with the Environment Agency staff to help realise the objectives of the strategy. To achieve this, Entec will undertake desk studies, together with field investigations and monitoring, to develop a robust conceptual understanding for groundwater/catchment systems across the region. Entec will also perform distributed regional groundwater resources modelling, and detailed local modelling where appropriate, to help assess groundwater resources, and the impact of existing groundwater abstraction licences.
Further support will involve updating, validation and operational use of groundwater models, as well as undertaking other activities to support groundwater or water resources projects within the Anglian region.
Entec’s Project Manager, Tim Haines, said: “Partnerships
are of vital importance to the effective delivery of long-term programmes. Our
commitment to team working and partnership has been demonstrated during the
first framework, where we have built strong joint teams, shared systems, encouraged
transparency, and have developed common performance targets. In successfully
re-tendering for the framework we aim to build on these foundations, working
with Environment Agency staff to help deliver their strategy.”
