Press Release
Entec WRAP up Recycling
Issue date: 2 August 2005
A high-profile guidance document produced by Entec has recently been launched by WRAP (the Waste and Resources Action Programme). Carried out through the framework contract Entec has with WRAP's ROTATE (Recycling and Organics Technical Advisory Team) programme, the guidance has been developed to help those local authorities considering introducing alternate week collections of refuse and recyclable materials. Supporting the launch of the guidance there have been 2 regional workshops, with a third scheduled for later on this year, involving presentations from Entec’s Project Manager, Dr Geoff Sampson, and a range of local authority speakers.
The study is one element of a growing portfolio of support delivered by Entec to local authority waste managers through the ROTATE programme during 2004/5. Other work carried out under the framework contract includes waste logistics exercises for authorities involving the redesign of collection systems, recycling service reviews and options appraisal studies.
Phillip Ward (Director of Waste Implementation Programmes at WRAP) states in the Foreword that the guidance document could not come at a better time. Local Authorities are continuously striving to improve recycling performance and service efficiencies, and increase the range of recyclable materials collected at the kerbside. Waste managers and local councillors will find the advice in the document invaluable in planning for and delivering change.
