Entec Secures Planning Permission for Dinnington Colliery Site

Issue date: 25 August 2005

Entec has successfully secured planning permission for the development of a modern business park on a former colliery site near Dinnington, South Yorkshire, for delivery body Renaissance South Yorkshire. The project at Dinnington is one of the biggest colliery regeneration schemes in Yorkshire and will eventually be the site of one of the largest business parks in South Yorkshire . The Dinnington colliery site closed in 1992 after nearly 90 years.

Entec was responsible for the production of the masterplan and a landscape framework for the scheme, as well as the preparation, submission and monitoring of the planning application. In the preparation of the planning application, Entec joined forces with Knight Frank to test market demand for the scheme. This directly led to proposals for a mix of business uses, including a hotel, a pub, a crèche, a restaurant, offices, light industry and storage uses. The scheme is predicted to attract £70 million of inward investment, and the first phase of the development alone is expected to generate in the region of 1,300 new jobs.

Renaissance South Yorkshire is reporting a high level of market interest in the site and has already sold a number of plots to investors and developers. The first development on the site is expected to be completed before the end of 2005.

Luke McDonald, Entec’s project manager, commented that “it is inspiring to be involved in a regeneration scheme that has progressed from masterplan to development on the ground in a just over a year. We’re delighted to have played a part in helping Renaissance South Yorkshire translate visions into reality so effectively and efficiently.”
