Entec Awarded ISO 14001

Entec is pleased to announce the achievement of ISO 14001, the international environmental management systems (EMS) standard, which applies to all of Entec’s operations.

The EMS is integrated with our existing quality systems and is to be used for both office-related and project management for the benefit of our clients. Office related issues are driven locally and require the support of all Entec staff to help reduce our impacts in areas such as waste and energy usage. Programmes are in place to establish a baseline understanding of our office-related impacts. On projects, systems are in place to identify likely impacts and where practicable influence clients to minimise their potential to harm the environment. Training programmes to introduce the new requirements of the EMS have been undertaken and are included as part of the induction of new starters.

Entec will benefit from certification in many ways. It will allow participation in certain market sectors, as many companies are now starting to stipulate recognised environmental management systems at the tendering stage. The EMS will help us to identify and manage environmental issues at the project level to the benefit of our clients and Entec is using the EMS as the driving force behind a number of office-based initiatives. These include such issues as the reduction of waste and the use of resources and to encourage changes in travel arrangements.

Entec’s Environmental Director, Roger Southern, led the implementation of ISO 14001 with advice from a steering committee comprising member of Entec’s Management Team and the Quality Director. He said, “Whilst Entec is not alone within the sector in implementing ISO 14001, our approach, that includes all of Entec’s activities at all of its office and sites, is straightforward and bold. It underlines our strong commitment to environmental management and the values of continual improvement and the prevention of pollution.”
