Planning Minister Launches Entec Research for ODPM

Planning Minister Keith Hill recently launched a new research report by Entec. The research, undertaken for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, identifies a series of good practice pointers to achieving beneficial links between new style Local Development Frameworks and Community Strategies. Local Development Frameworks can play a key role in helping deliver Community Strategy objectives.

The objectives of the study were to:

• Establish the extent and diversity in Community Strategies at Winter 2002 and what the likely range could be in two year’s time;
• Identify key issues that need resolving in order to establish effective relationships between Community Strategies and Local Development Frameworks; and
• Provide good practice advice on establishing effective relationships between Community Strategies and Local development Frameworks.

The research, entitled ‘The Relationship between Community Strategies and Local Development Frameworks’ highlights the advantages that can be achieved by closer working, such as:

• Better understanding of community needs;
• Economies of scale from sharing resources;
• Improved policies and proposals; and
• Improved public consultation.

The research should be essential reading for all those involved in preparing Local Development Frameworks and Community strategies.
