Entec Help Carbon Trust Run
the Marine Energy Challenge

Entec has helped the Carbon Trust set up the Marine Energy Challenge that was announced at the recent British Wind Energy Association Wave and Marine Energy conference in Bristol. The Challenge is intended to match the many marine renewable energy technologies to the wider engineering skills found elsewhere. This partnering is intended to stimulate the development of this important industry and to inform the Carbon Trust on the potential for marine energy devices to achieve a competitive cost of electricity generation against other renewable and fossil-fuelled power generation.

Entec advised on the development of the scope of the challenge, identified suitable engineering contractors and identified the key technologies to be included in the Challenge. Entec’s Project Manager, Richard Boud, has also been retained by the Carbon Trust to contribute to the management of the Challenge by advising on the technical aspects of the work and the scope and direction of the engineering.

Richard said, “We are pleased to be working so closely with the Carbon Trust in providing our independent engineering expertise on marine renewable energy technologies and we are looking forward to the anticipated growth and development of this new industry. It has the potential to supply a significant proportion of our future energy needs providing robust and commercial technology can be developed.”
