Entec Wins Prestigious Awards

Northumbrian Water’s Wear Valley water treatment works project, including detailed design, EIA work and site supervision by Entec, has won a prestigious National Green Apple Environment Award 2004. The project was actually a silver winner, only just missing out the gold and an automatic representation in the European Environment Awards. The award ceremony was held at the House of Commons on the 4th November, hosted by Patricia Hewitt, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry.

Entec has also been awarded the Environmental Award at the inaugural Landmark Awards sponsored by the Newcastle Journal on 7th October. Due to the Wear Valley project location within an area of outstanding natural beauty, the judges felt the symmetry of design and material specification of the works with the existing built environment was a critical factor in the success of this development.

In addition, the project has also gained the Civil Engineering Contractors Association Project of the Year 2004 and the Foster Wheeler Award 2004 for innovation in project management at the IChemE Awards. The latter regarded the project as a benchmark performance in the area of stakeholder communication.

Entec’s Project Manager, Steve Bulcock said: ”Gaining these awards is a marvellous achievement for both the project and project team. A full environmental impact assessment was required as part of the planning process, covering noise, traffic, visual, site selection, sustainability and a commitment to carry out the construction works to ISO14001 accreditation. I’m pleased that Entec has been party to such a resoundingly successful development: a new landmark in the north east.”
