Entec at TCPA Breakfast Briefings
Entec is to take part in a series of breakfast briefings to be held by the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) throughout October and November. The briefing series, titled ‘Strategic Environmental Assessment & Sustainability Appraisals – The New Agenda for Planning and Transport’ will discuss the new European Directive on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), which presents perhaps the most radical change to the way plans are produced for many years.
Entec’s Clive Harridge will cover the role of sustainability appraisal (SA) in the planning process. Clive has extensive experience of SA and is currently advising a range of public and private sector clients on SA including the NW Regional Assembly, the Crown Estate and a number of local authorities. SA is a rapidly evolving area of planning practice that is having significant influence over the implementation of the new planning system at regional and local levels. SA has a key role in helping to improve the sustainability performance of plans and programmes which ultimately will result in better plans and better development. Clive, who is also the senior vice president of the Royal Town Planning Institute, will draw on examples of good practice from Entec and throughout industry to identify the benefits that can be achieved from SA.
The briefings will also feature speakers from the Office for the Deputy Prime Minister, Friends of the Earth, the Transport Research Library and regional Government offices.
The briefings will be held on the following dates:
Thursday 13th October - London
Friday 21st October - Leeds
Friday 4th November - Birmingham
Wednesday 9th November - Exeter
