Tees Valley Minerals & Waste Consultation
Joint Minerals and Waste Development Plan Documents for the Tees Valley
In September 2006, Entec was appointed by the Tees Valley Joint Strategy Unit to prepare Joint Minerals and Waste Development Plan Documents (MWDPDs) for the five local authorities of the Tees Valley area (Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar & Cleveland). The MWDPDs will consist of a Core Strategy Development Plan Document, and a Policies and Sites Development Plan Document. The MWDPDs will pass through the various stages of preparation over the next three years, with adoption of the documents expected in 2010. When adopted, the documents will form part of each individual authority’s Local Development Framework.
For the first stage of the preparation process Entec has produced an Issues and Options Report. This report identifies the issues which are relevant to minerals and waste planning in the Tees Valley, and provides options for how these issues can be dealt with. The Issues and Options report is being published for public consultation from 21st May 2007 until 30th June 2007, to allow interested parties to comment on the issues and options identified. The Issues and Options Report is available to view by following the link below:

To assist with the production of the MWDPDs, the Issues and Options Report also invites the submission of any sites or land which interested parties would like to see considered by the Policies and Sites DPD process, with a view for these sites to be allocated for minerals or waste developments during the plan period. The information relating to potential sites which should be submitted at this time are:
In addition to the publication of the Issues and Options Report a series of drop-in events are being held at certain libraries in the Tees Valley during the consultation period. These drop-in events will be attended by staff from both Entec and the local authorities who will be able to talk you through the details of the reports. These drop-in events are being held on the following dates:
The results of the consultation exercise on the Issues and Options Report will influence how the MWDPDs develop through the remainder of the preparation process.
Entec is also producing a Sustainability Appraisal to accompany the MWDPDs. This will provide advice on what the most sustainable options are and help to ensure that the documents conform with the principles of sustainable development. Entec has produced a Scoping Report which is also being published for public consultation from 21st May to 30th June 2007. The Scoping Report identifies all of the relevant subjects on sustainability for minerals and waste in the Tees Valley, and has been issued for consultation to ensure that subjects have been missed. The Scoping Report can be viewed by following the link below:
Any organisation or individual making submissions will be added to Entec’s contact list and will be kept informed of all publications, consultation exercises and events throughout the production process of the MWDPDs, unless you specifically ask not to be included on the list. If you have no submissions to make at this stage, but would like to be included on the contact list to be informed of future developments in the production of the MWDPDs please provide your contact details to the address below.
Entec is managing the production process and any enquires should be directed to Entec directly. However should you wish to speak to a representative from the local authority, then you can also get in touch with:
