Entec Helps BAA with Development of New Heathrow Terminal
Entec has successfully supported BAA in gaining agreement in principle for a new terminal at Heathrow, subject to a legal agreement. The new Heathrow East Terminal will replace ageing Terminals 1 and 2 with world class, environmentally-responsible facilities.
Entec undertook the environmental impact assessment and prepared the environmental statement that accompanied the planning application. Entec’s project manager for the work was an integral part of the BAA project team working with the project engineer and architects, and was based part-time at Heathrow for the duration of the assessment work.
Heathrow East will improve the airport experience for passengers, giving them a light, spacious and modern environment. The proposals will not increase the capacity of the airport. BAA hopes to open the first phase of Heathrow East in time for the London 2012 Olympics, with the completion of the new 30 million passenger terminal in 2016.
Commenting on the project and Entec’s contribution, Liz Southern at BAA said: "Gaining timely planning consent (subject to the legal agreement) is an important milestone in the Heathrow East Terminal project programme and Entec has made a major contribution to this success. Our thanks the Entec team for their hard work and dedication in helping us achieve this success.”
Entec’s project manager Angela Jones said: “The Heathrow East project has provided an excellent opportunity to continue our longstanding working relationship with BAA and contribute to a project of national importance. The environmental impact assessment process that Entec has developed over several years for such large scale developments was applied to the project. This ensured that any adverse environmental effects were ‘designed out’ and that the challenging five month timescale was met.”
