Entec Supports Scotswood scheme
Newcastle City Council has backed outline plans to bring 1800 homes to the Scotswood area of the city over the next 15 years. Entec supported the application by undertaking the EIA which considered a wide range of potential issues including visual impact, ecology, air quality, noise and archaeology. It is understood that Government Office North East is now giving consideration to the proposed plans.
At the centre of the proposal is a housing expo, which would include building 350 homes designed to achieve high levels of sustainability in the first phase. The expo festival will run for up to 12 weeks and the council hopes it will be a landmark development attracting visitors from across Europe. A further 1450 homes will be built in the remaining phases of the scheme.
The outline proposals also include a neighbourhood centre with businesses, parks and community facilities across the 61ha site. A primary school, walkways and cycle routes are also planned.
