Database Tool and Ship Emission Inventory for CONCAWE

Entec has been involved in a number of ship emissions studies on behalf of the European Commission (http://ec.europa.eu/environment/air/transport.htm) and was appointed by CONCAWE, the oil companies’ European association for environment, health and safety in refining and distribution, to develop a detailed database tool and ship emission inventory for the Mediterranean Sea.

The inventory considered emissions to air of:

• Sulphur dioxide;
• Oxides of nitrogen;
• Hydrocarbons;
• Particulate matter; and
• Carbon dioxide

The database tool has enabled CONCAWE to modify underlying assumptions, such as emission factors and growth rates, in order to assess the likely effects on ship emissions in the Mediterranean Sea of a range of possible future policy options.
