Tees Valley Minerals and Waste Consultation -
Preferred Options Reports

Joint Minerals and Waste Development Plan Documents for the Tees Valley

In September 2006, Entec was appointed by the Tees Valley Joint Strategy Unit to prepare Joint Minerals and Waste Development Plan Documents (DPDs) for the five local authorities of the Tees Valley area (Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar & Cleveland). The Minerals and Waste DPDs will consist of a Core Strategy DPD and a Policies and Sites DPD. The two DPDs will form part of each individual authority’s Local Development Framework when they are adopted in 2010.

In 2007, Entec successfully undertook the first stage of the project, which involved the production of an Issues and Options Report. This report was identified the issues affecting minerals and waste in the Tees Valley and identified options for dealing with these. The report was the subject of a six week public consultation exercise in May and June 2007.

The comments received from this exercise were then used in the production of a Preferred Option Reports, which sets out the Tees Valley’s preferred approach for dealing with the issues identified in the first stage. Entec are now organising a public consultation exercise on the Preferred Options Reports which will run from 21st February to 2nd April 2008. This exercise will allow members of the public to view the reports and submit any comments they wish to make.

The Preferred Options Reports are available to view by following the link below:

Your comments can be submitted by:

All comments should be made for the attention of Neil Marlborough.

To allow as many members of the public as possible the opportunity to be involved in the consultation exercise, Entec have arranged for the reports to be available to view at all planning offices, main council offices and public libraries in the Tees Valley. In addition, a series of drop-in events are being held at certain libraries to allow people to discuss the reports with staff from Entec and the relevant local authorities. These drop-in events are being held on the following dates:

All events are being held between 3pm and 7pm, except for Seaton Carew which is between 4pm and 6pm.

The results of the consultation exercise on the Preferred Options Report will influence how the Minerals and Waste DPDs develop through the remainder of the preparation process through to adoption.

Entec is also producing a Sustainability Appraisal to accompany the MWDPDs. This Appraisal will provide advice on what the most sustainable options are and help to ensure that the documents conform to the principles of sustainable development. Entec has therefore produced an Environmental Report on the Preferred Options which is also being published for public consultation. The Environmental Report can be viewed by following the link. (CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE).

Any organisation or individual making submissions will be added to Entec’s contact list and will be kept informed of all publications, consultation exercises and events throughout the production process of the Minerals and Waste DPDs, unless you specifically ask not to be included on the list. If you have no submissions to make at this stage, but would like to be included on the contact list to be informed of future developments in the production of the Minerals and Waste DPDs please provide your contact details to the address below.
