Kielder Challenge 2002

One of Entec's sporting institutions is the Kielder Challenge, a weekend event for teams of 6, just about the best team building event there is. The Kielder Challenge has been run for 16 years and Entec has participated in 14 of these. Each year the event becomes more compelling and the competition more intense. This year we entered two mixed teams from across the company, each comprising one experienced hand and five intrepid newcomers.

The format of the event is a testing series of mental and physical challenges on the Saturday, set out on a 10 mile circuit through the forest. Having lifted your last scaffold pole, lashed your last log and shinned across the rope bridge to safety, its on to the bivi site where you build your shelter for the night out of a few basic materials. Sunday's exercise is a 4 hour orienteering race, tied in with a puzzle of some sort which hopefully you solved the night before. Its all over by midday with a sumptuous barbecue and a few pints of that beer you've been dreaming about all morning. Why do we do all this? ... the challenge. 110 teams from companies all over the country, battled it out for the honours this year, and battle it is, it's an all-absorbing event designed to test the best. Don't miss it if you get the chance.
