Go-Karting

On 23rd November 2002, around 60 Entec employees from across the UK joined together at Speed Karting in Warrington to put their driving skills to the ultimate test: go-karting.

10 teams of around 6 competitors competed, with each team completing between 152 and 173 laps during the course of the day. Lap times as fast as 47.02 seconds were achieved, just 0.15 seconds off the course record - well done Patrick Scharfegger (Men and Motors). Just 21 laps separated the teams at the end of the 2½ hour endurance race. Perrin’s Perils (Northwich Environmental) led by Darren Perrin fought hard to try and retain their lead for an hour, but could not match the team strategy of Men and Motors (Northwich Engineers) led by Mike Banner who went on to win the event in a close 9 second finish against Speedy Gonzales (London) led by Chris Whall.

Team spirit was the theme of the day. Skilful manoeuvres, clever braking, and hairpin turns were plentiful and thankfully accidents and mishaps almost a non-occurrence. In the evening, a number of people retired to the night life of Manchester to deliberate on the day’s events.
