Entec North East Quiz Night

Once again, Entec staff in the north-east found the need for an ‘intellectual challenge’ in the form of an Entec quiz night. A total of 85 people took part, most from the Gosforth office, but with welcome additions from other offices, such as new starters here on induction course week – and EHS Director, Martin Houldin who followed the crowd to Gosforth Civic Hall thinking it was a fire drill!

It was a meticulously planned night with 12 teams following a rigid programme of extreme trivia. Questions such as “what is the road number of Gosforth High Street?” had most of the Gosforth staff stumped and it was left to the visiting induction course delegates to help out. Most teams got the “that’s odd” montage picture correct, recognising Entec’s Managing Director Simon Armes-Reardon (bottom) merged with Geotechnics Director, Alan Surtees (top) >

At the end of it all, and only 15 minutes behind schedule, the Jaws team picked up the first prize, a case of fine Northumbrian Wines. It was a close run thing as the score graph shows >

Winners of the Caption Competition proudly showed off their prize of an Entec hat which also doubles as a really useful but not very fashionable bag >

Any headaches after the event were caused by rounds at the bar rather than rounds in the quiz. Thanks to Joan Thompson for arranging the event, Tom Lloyd for the picture round and local knowledge questions (although Tom is actually from Lancashire), Brian Crow for the other mayhem – but principally, thanks to all 85 who attended and ensured such a successful night. Hope one of you told Martin that the Fire Drill was over.

Roll on March ‘04 when the Wooden Spoon winners will be organising the next event.
