Touch Rugby Festival, Tynemouth Beach

On Sunday 31st August, Entec entered a Touch rugby festival on Tynemouth Beach. The event, one of 25 festivals held around the country as part of the Gilbert Touch Rugby series, was aimed at promoting the game of touch rugby in the northeast and throughout the UK. As well as other companies, there was a wide and varied range of competitors from local rugby clubs, to colleges, even a surf shop and local dancing club.

Due to the high interest from across the business, Entec was able to field two mixed teams, captained by Chris Spedding and John Johnson. The fortunes of both teams were varied – Chris’s “Entec Untouchable” team didn’t quite live up to their title, recording just one win. This success came against Blyth Youth, with Alistair Dalton scoring the tries.

John’s side fared a little better but despite only suffering one loss, they too missed out on a semi-final place. There were plenty of highlights though with JJ and Tony Smithson claiming seven tries between them whilst Paul Minto and Alan Robson also crossed the line.

After the event, participants enjoyed live music and a BBQ though no one was quite brave enough to venture into the North Sea to cool off. In all, everyone had an enjoyable day out at the coast, taking part in a growing new sport.
