Entec Ski Weekend - February 2004

Entec recently held its fourth annual ski weekend at the usual destination of Glenshee, Perth. 10 staff from not only the Scottish offices of Glasgow and Dounreay but also Gosforth journeyed east, south and north respectively seeking both snow and solace.

Though the offering from the skies above was fairly meagre, the hospitality at the Fife Arms was once again excellent, providing a relaxed atmosphere in front of roaring log fires accompanied by first-class food and drink.

The party of experienced, intermediate, and novice skiers enjoyed a wide range of winter activities. For the beginners there was the Lecht slope and a lively instructor, whose helpful yet practical advice, “remember if you’re going to fall, fall to the side”, was inadvertently carried out by most.

For the more experienced or perhaps more accurately the foolhardier of the party, there was some Olympic-style sledge jumping in Delta Red Two (Andrew Smith allegedly holds the high altitude record) while some were more tailored for the Freestyle event. Other activities included both blade hopping and board walking.

But it wasn’t all about defying gravity as the warmth and welcoming of the local bar provided a good opportunity to take a break and enjoy some traditional Scottish hospitality away from the office.

Thanks go to all those who participated in a very enjoyable weekend, with special mention to the seven brave new skiers now recruited to the cause!
