Renewa-ball Challenge

The renewables industry finally battled it out on 30th July…on the football pitch that is. With teams entered from all sectors of the industry, the Scottish Renewables Football Challenge 2004 was deemed roaring success.

Entec was the sole sponsor for the event, organised in collaboration with the Scottish Renewables Forum (SRF), and hosted at Powerleague 5-a-side pitches in Glasgow. The tournament was the fruit of an idea conceived by Demian Khan of Entec and Maf Smith of SRF at a conference earlier this year, and showed that members of the renewables industry are keen to let their hair down in the name of sport.

Several hours of matches were followed by trophy presentations and networking in the bar. Teams included Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire, Scotland and Northern Ireland Plumbers Association, Entec, Inter-Yer Windfarm (players from SRF joined by extra players from Wind Prospect and OPD), Scottish Executive, Renewable Energy Systems, nPower Renewables, Sgurr Energy, Garrad Hassan, Proven Wind Turbines, University of Strathclyde and Ocean Power Delivery.

The event gave the first opportunity for many to network informally with the industry, with Sgurr emerging as the inaugural 2004 Champions, beating Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire in the final. For the record, Entec went out gracefully in the first round.
