Lost Children take victory Holme

The 3rd Annual Entec six-a-side football tournament pushed Euro 2004 briefly off the headlines on 26th June as 11 teams from around the country competed for the honour of raising aloft the coveted trophy and organising next year’s event.
The group stages threw up some classics. Grit and determination from Glasgow turned two seemingly unassailable 2-0 reverses into a 2-2 draw against Gossy’s Giants and a remarkable 3-2 win against Becks, and the Scots topped their group (not something you see often). The other group was won by Posh, whose 100% record was dented only by a spirited performance from Olympic Panicathanaikos (the management team). But the Olympians’ creditable draw was not enough to avoid the wooden spoon playoff in which London’s Who is John Holmes? belied their lowly position with an action packed 8-3 win to keep the spoon in safe management team hands for another year.
The final, between The Lost
Children of John Holmes (London) and Posh (Northwich) produced an unforgettable
classic. Two goals from Matt Fallon for the Londoners,
and replies from Duncan Mackerness and Mark Farrell (with the last kick),
delivered the drama of a penalty shootout, in which The Lost Children, led
ably by Ben
Grebot, won 3-1. Unfortunately the tabloid hacks were too busy talking about
some other spotkick to notice the open-topped bus parade through the streets
of the capital.
