Move over Chelsea

The Premiership may have just kicked off, but our civil engineers are putting their feet up and basking in the glory of a well earned Civil Engineering Summer League title win.

For the first time in over thirty years and in only Entec’s second year of participation, we can now boast the fact that we have won the league and join former champions like Babtie, URS, HBG and Woolgar Hunter to mention a few to have our names on the coveted trophy. The success was hard fought with Entec unbeaten in ten games and eventually taking the title in front of second placed URS by a single point.

The title triumph was made all the sweeter following a disastrous Spring Cup campaign, where the Entec team only managed to gain a single draw from five games (far from title winning form). However, this run of results resulted in some painful home truths being aired, a change in positions and probably most importantly the team chipping in to buy Neil Mackinnon a new pair of tights (it does get very cold up in Scotland even in the summer!)

A special mention must go to Stephen Battersby who multi-tasked to the limit to be player-manager, captain and organiser. Congratulations to the whole team and their obligatory nicknames: David “Hulk” Bannister, Neil “Ballet dancer” MacKinnon, Christopher “Flapper” Blackwood, Phillip “I’ll ask the bird” Sherry, Andrew “Nice boy” Smith, Peter “Twinkle toes” McGillivray, David “Dado” Thompson-Noble, Scott “Greedy boy” Martin and Tony “The moon man” Brew.
