The Entec Open

On the 22nd April, 27 keen Entec golfers gathered to do battle at Withington Golf Club near Manchester. Withington is a well established course founded in 1892, with enough difficultly to keep the best interested and the rest challenged.

On the day the sun came out, nice and dry and enough wind to provide an excuse for the odd wayward tee shot. Coffee or tea on arrival was followed by a morning round of 10 holes providing the perfect warm up for the main event in the afternoon after a lunch of soup and sandwiches (for those who got round quick enough!). The afternoon was scored as individual and team stableford rounds to 7/8 handicap. The day was then rounded off with a 3 course evening meal and prize giving.

Peter Foskett sneaked away with the first individual prize of a rather nice golf bag with Maurice Hoban in second. James Cooke, playing off the lowest handicap of 1, completed an impressive afternoon round to beat off Mike Banner for 3rd place with the prize of a rescue club, although he clearly doesn’t need much rescuing. There were plenty of other winners on the day including Christine Bell for the longest drive, Mathew Sellwood, Mark Farrell and Geoff Sampson in the team event, Susie Ross for the highest placed lady and Trevor Parkin who got nearest to the pin.

Thanks go to Mike Banner and Andy Jobson for the scoring and prize giving and Colm O’Neill for bringing together the tee times and groupings (and keeping up with the many subsequent revisions). Most of all, thanks to Graham Webb for organising and running the event.
