Entec at CL:AIRE Risk Assessment Conference

Entec is to sponsor the CL:AIRE (Contaminated Lands: Applications in Real Environments) conference on Environmental Risk Assessment for Contaminated Land, to be held on 23rd February 2006 in London. The conference is aimed at consultants and regulators involved in undertaking and assessing risk assessments and trying to disseminate current good practice.

The conference is split into 3 main sessions. Session 1 will be on ‘gas and human health risk assessment’, session 2 will focus on ‘controlled waters and human health risk assessment’, whilst session 3 will discuss ‘ecological risk assessment /remediation with risk assessment application’.

Entec’s Ben Fretwell will be discussing incorporating total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) into groundwater risk assessment. The paper will present a framework for assessing the risks to groundwater from TPH based on current UK and international good practice and the legislative and regulatory requirements in England and Wales. The framework has been developed to aid both regulators and risk assessors to understand how to deal with TPH, to improve consistency in risk assessment and regulatory response, and to ensure that risk assessments are appropriate to the risk present.

CL:AIRE is a public/private partnership involving government policy makers, regulators, industry, research organisations and technology developers. CL:AIRE provides a link amongst the main stakeholders in contaminated land remediation in the UK.
